Where has the time gone?
It occurred to me this morning that it has been over six months since I last posted!? Where has the time gone? In the last week before Easter and with only 5 lessons left after, why have I not posted sooner? This year has been a challenge. Restructuring within the college has meant that I Continue reading

Summer 2022- The first exams
I know I am jumping around a bit at the moment, but now seems like a good time to look back again. Summer is always the time of year when class numbers drop dramatically. As teachers, we work even harder, cramming in those last bits of advice on the build up for the exams. But Continue reading

Results
I have yet publish anything about our results, but given it is hot topic in the news, I feel something needs to be said. 2021-2022 we had our first entry into the exam. Only my lower ability groups trialled the 2.0 Lift spec and we had surprisingly good results. 34% of students achieved a Grade Continue reading

New projects…
I do believe I am becoming somewhat obsessed with research projects! From the middle of January 2024 until well into mid March, I found myself working for six days a week. Why you may ask? Well we were invited to take part in a very exciting trial, involving the introduction of online exams. 2022/23, I Continue reading

Curiosity Piqued!
There was a growing curiosity about the work I was doing with English Language 2.0. Learning Mentors were speaking to their colleagues about the new approach and the progress they were witnessing. I found many Mentors were happy to come and cover their colleagues in my lessons. All wanting to see if what they heard Continue reading

Autumn 21 Struggles
So far every post I have shared has been fairly positive. This kind of gives a false impression because there were many struggles, especially in Autumn 21. Firstly teaching 3 different exam qualifications. I had two adult Functional Skills groups, 4 GCSE AQA groups and 4 GCSE Pearson groups. On more than occasion did I Continue reading

Autumn 2021 introducing Paper 1 Question 2 and 5
The first half term worked beautifully! I attended the Pearson 2.0 ‘getting started’ training event, coming away with a better understanding of the requirements of the papers and ideas to help introduce new concepts. Starting with creative writing and transactional writing, allowed me to get my head around these ideas fully and amend my planning Continue reading

Hello Students, welcome to a new way of thinking!
September 2021 had a very different start to the year. Students had spent the best part of the last two years in Lockdown, working from home and social distancing. Everything felt strange. What should have been a familiar space, felt odd. Having the three kids really helped me put into perspective the apprehension my students Continue reading

Linking and mapping it all…
I found the Pearson website was regularly being updated with new resources. The Paper 1 Anthology was complete, however in Summer 2021 there were a number of texts in the Paper 2 Anthology that were still awaiting Copyright approval. That was a bit frustrating, but what was useful, was that the titles of the texts Continue reading

A change of scenery often helps.
We are very lucky to live on the edge of the city. A two minute walk and you are in open fields leading surrounding areas of woodland. It was halfway around the block when I felt a tiny spark flicker through my consciousness, was this the start of an idea? Cutting through fields with my Continue reading
Hello!
I started my 2.0 lift journey in June 2021. I played with the idea of writing a blog from day one, but wasn’t sure I was ready to tell the world my story. It all started as a little project to find out how viable 2.0 would be as a qualification. ‘My little project’ has now turned into a cross college wide program of study. So this blog will be me looking back over the past 2 years and sharing my observations for anyone who is looking to dip their toe, or for those of you who have already taken the plunge into 2.0, but want a different perspective. Here you will find my highs and lows, successes and failures. I hope you find it insightful. Enjoy!
